Traffic disruption during Fast & Furious filming
The City of Edinburgh Council have put temporary traffic and parking measures in place ready for filming in locations across Edinburgh.
A number of restrictions will affect roads close to buildings in the University’s central area, while filming takes place throughout September.
Although we expect there to be minimal impact to our staff and students, please be aware that some of these restrictions may disrupt traffic and parking around buildings in the central area.
We have outlined the restrictions below and recommend that you allow for additional time when moving around the central area during any impacted times.

Traffic restrictions
The following road closures will occur close to our central area:
- South and West College Street 06:00 on 6th September to 22:00 on 23rd September
- Chambers Street from 06:00 on 17th September to 22:00 on 18th September
- Guthrie Street from 06:00 on 17th September to 22:00 on 18th September
- Cowgate from 05:00 to 12:00 on 21st September

A number of areas will experience short traffic holds, with traffic flow being brought to normal levels between each hold. This will affect the following areas close to our central area:
- Forrest Road from 12:00 to 18:00 on 11th September, and 06:00 to 17:00 on 21st September
- Potterrow, Bristo Square and Teviot Place area from 12:00 to 18:00 on 11th September, and from 09:00 to 17:00 on 21st September
- George IV Bridge from 06:00 to 12:00 on 21st September
Parking restrictions
The following parking restrictions will take place in locations close to our central campus, during working hours:
- Sections of Chambers Street from 00:01 on 6th September to 23:59 on 23rd September: South side and central parking bays from Guthrie Street to West College Street. North side from opposite West College Street eastwards to South Bridge.
- South and West College Street from 00:01 on 6th September to 23:59 on 23rd September
Information about Undergraduate Open Day on 21st September
While we expect road closures, traffic holds or parking restrictions to have low impact on the University’s Undergraduate Open Day, we are expecting some delays to the shuttle buses we will be providing to allow prospective students and their families to travel between our campuses.
We have informed all attendees of expected delays and have asked that anyone visiting our campuses allows for additional time if moving to or from our central area.
We also ask for staff working during the Open Day to be mindful of delays when travelling to and from University areas.
Staff parking during the 21st September Open Day
Staff should be aware that, in order to ensure visitor safety, the north and east sides of George Square will be closed to traffic, and there will be parking suspensions on Buccleuch Place.
Access to staff car parks around George Square will be maintained however, with the exception of the spaces underneath the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre which are required for the Open Day shuttle bus service.
