Support for Early Career Researchers

2019 sees the launch of the new Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. Institutions wishing to sign the Concordat must present an action plan which demonstrates how they will engage and support their research staff in career management.

The University of Edinburgh has a population of around 2,000 research staff who have a range of development needs and career challenges. Academic and professional services staff around the institution work collaboratively to provide development opportunities to this group, sometimes working with self-organising groups of researchers. However, with the Concordat on the horizon we need to ensure that we can report on our institutional plans and approaches.

At Senate we will present an overview of issues facing research staff, hear from representatives of the research community and those supporting them, and summarise some of the support available.
