Modern Apprentice programme 2019

The University is inviting all departments and Schools to participate in the annual Modern Apprentice programme.

Over recent years, staff at the University have seen the rewards of hiring Modern Apprentices (MAs).

Having a MA can bring many benefits: provide skilled workers for the future; free up existing staff time; revitalise and bring a fresh approach; offer mentoring and development opportunities for your team and offer a cost-effective option of hiring new talent to the University.

Get involved

Staff should register their interest in hosting a Modern Apprentice by Friday 22 February 2019.

More information and details of how to register interest are available at the following link (EASE login required): https://edin.ac/2PTa3ca

Please plan for your MA to begin work in August/September 2019. MAs are also available to train and develop existing staff.

How it works

An initial fixed-term contract is recommended for Modern Apprentices, usually 12 - 24 months depending on the length of the training programme selected.

At the end of the qualification, the aim of the programme is to extend or offer permanent employment to the individual.

The hiring department covers salary costs (Grade 1).

Government funding is available for training, which can be work- or college-based, depending on the MA selected.

Full funding is typically available for MAs aged 16-20. For apprentices above this age, the host department will meet part/full training costs.

Programme event

There is an information event about the Modern Apprentice programme on Tuesday 22 January 2019 from 9-10.30am.

Staff interested in attending the event should register through MyEd: https://edin.ac/2F8nn7r
