Chemistry duo win prestigious awards

Two Edinburgh scientists have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the field of chemistry.

Professor Mark Bradley and Dr Michael Seery have been presented with prestigious awards by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Pioneering work

Professor Bradley was named as the winner of the Interdisciplinary Prize for his influential and pioneering research in the area of optical medical imaging.

This award is a reflection of the fantastic team involved with the project. It is recognition of the amazing efforts and journey that has allowed multiple fluorescent molecules to aid human studies in the areas of bacterial infection, fibrosis and cancer imaging.

Supporting colleagues

Dr Seery was chosen by his peers as the winner of the Inspirational Member Award, which recognises those who proactively and inclusively support their colleagues and the wider scientific community.

Chemistry awards

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s Awards and Prizes are awarded in recognition of originality and impact of research, or for each winner’s contribution to the chemical sciences industry or education.

They also acknowledge the importance of teamwork across the chemical sciences, as well as the abilities of individuals to develop successful collaborations.
