University doors open for public to explore

A selection of the University of Edinburgh’s most iconic buildings and hidden spaces will be open to the public this weekend, 29 and 30 September.

The annual Edinburgh Doors Open Day offers a free behind-the-scenes peek at buildings of architectural, cultural or social interest.

Visitors can explore University landmarks such as McEwan Hall and Old College, as well as lesser-known venues, including the Informatics Forum garden roof terrace and the Anatomical Museum.

Free activities

Each building will provide information to help visitors learn more about its history, design and use. Several feature free activities including liquid nitrogen ice cream in the Joseph Black Building and a children’s treasure hunt, both at King’s Buildings.

University researchers will be on hand at King’s Buildings and the MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine at the Western General to offer insight into their cutting-edge scientific research

The booking process and opening times for each building differ. Please check the Doors Open Day brochure for details.
