City Region Deal to bring exciting research opportunities

As proposals are being finalised for the University’s contribution to the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, representatives from the Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) Programme have been speaking about what the Deal means for the University - and the opportunities for staff.

Professor Judy Robertson, Chair of Digital Learning, explained why working on the City Region Deal’s Skills Programme was a huge opportunity for academic career development: “The scale of the DDI Programme is phenomenal. In contrast to the usual research projects, I’ll be working over 15 years with teams of people across 527 schools in all of the six local authorities surrounding the University.

"One of the most interesting development opportunities is to test ideas in the real world. In social sciences, we spend a lot of time thinking about the most effective interventions for improving society – this offers a chance to find out whether we are right about those ideas. Helping society is an important part of the University’s mission.”

Subject to final agreement, the DDI Programme will include the Easter Bush Campus, the Bayes Centre, Edinburgh Futures Institute, Usher Institute, and Robotarium – a partnership with Heriot-Watt University.

To mark the launch of DDI Programme, a series of events is planned in April and May which will offer an opportunity to find out more about the Programme and the opportunities for staff. Events will take place on the dates below (registration details to follow):
