Christmas closure 2018
The University is to close from 5pm on Friday 21 December 2018 until 9am on Thursday 3 January 2019.
Generally, University buildings close for this period and staff are required to take leave, unless the Head of School / Support Department has made alternative arrangements.
Those functions providing a service during this period publish their opening times separately.
Public holiday dates
The designated public holidays for all staff, other than those who are routinely required to work weekends, will be:
- Tuesday 25 December 2018
- Wednesday 26 December 2018
- Tuesday 1 January 2019
- Wednesday 2 January 2019
The remaining four closure days (24, 27, 28 and 31 December 2018) will be taken from annual leave entitlement.
Semester 2 starts on 14 January 2019.
By taking some simple steps, staff can help the University cut costs, meet our Zero by 2040 emissions target, and reduce the risk of fire during this quiet period.
Before leaving the University at Christmas, staff are reminded to:
• Switch off lights
• Turn down heating to frost prevention
• Switch off equipment at the plug
If you work in a laboratory or a workshop, make sure to ask your Lab or Workshop Manager about their winter shutdown plans.
