He will take up the post from 1 August 2017.

Professor Kelley is currently the Interim Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at The Open University, where he has held several leadership roles.

Research and teaching success

Professor Kelley has an international research portfolio in earth sciences, measuring the rates and timescales of geological processes.

He also has extensive experience in the development and delivery of online science courses, which will be highly beneficial to both the School and the University.

Professor Kelley will join the University in July 2017, and take up the Head of School post from 1 August when Professor Sandy Tudhope completes his term as Head of School.

I’m excited to be joining the University of Edinburgh and leading a talented bunch of people in the School of Geosciences through the next phase of their research and teaching success.
