LGBT Staff Network
Colleagues are invited to attend the first meeting of a newly reformed and energised Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Staff Network.
In advance of a re-launch event, colleagues are invited to attend the first meeting of a newly reformed and energised LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) Staff Network. We are looking for volunteers to become part of a co-ordinating committee, for input as to what members would like from their network, and to vote on a new network name which reflects our community and purpose.
Who are we?
The LGBT Staff Network is inclusive and serves as a resource for the rich diversity of LGBT identified employees across the institution. Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for all people who self-identify as part of LGBT communities, whether or not they are ‘out’ in the wider world, and to make LGBT issues more visible within the University environment. We include all those individuals and communities whose sexuality or gender identity is a matter of shared personal, political and/or social experience, as well as those who are LGBT allies.
Network purpose
The Network exists to support the LGBT community at the University. Its purpose is to provide a way for LGBT staff to get to know each other through formal and informal events and feel part of a welcoming LGBT community at work. It also raises awareness and visibility of LGBT issues across the University, at an institutional level.
Committee volunteers
The committee will work as a team, in liaison with HR Equality, Diversity & Inclusion staff, and also partner organisations, to establish the Network's strategic direction. A role on the committee will require dedication and time commitment, as well as a passion for enhancing the University’s support of the LGBT community and an understanding of issues relating to LGBT people in the workplace.
Get involved
The first meeting is being held from 12.30 to 2.00pm on Friday 29th July 2016, in Room G.01, 21 George Square, Academy of Government. Sandwich lunch provided. Please email the committee at LGBTstaff@ed.ac.uk to confirm your attendance or express an interest. All responses will be treated as confidential.
