Labs given green award

Edinburgh has won a prestigious award for its efforts to improve sustainability.

EUAC Green Gown Awards

The University has been recognised at the EAUC Green Gown Awards for its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its laboratories.

The awards acknowledge exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by colleges and universities across the UK.

Innovative project

At an awards ceremony in Bristol, Edinburgh was announced as the winner of the Facilities and Services Award for its sustainable laboratories project.

Laboratories at Edinburgh have committed to taking innovative measures to improve their environmental performance and share best practice with colleagues across the University.

Sustainability schemes

A number of unique sustainability initiatives have been developed as part of the project.

These include the first scheme in the UK to recycle scientists’ disposable gloves, efforts to manage and recycle pipette tips and a project to recover and reuse helium.

“Edinburgh is committed to being a leading socially responsible and sustainable university. We support our staff and students in delivering meaningful change and improving our own practices. Public recognition provides us with an opportunity to celebrate and reward their enthusiasm and hard work.
