E-cigarette usage guidelines

In line with current British Medical Association (BMA) guidance, and with immediate effect, the use of electronic cigarettes is prohibited on non-smoking University premises.

This guidance applies to all staff and students as well as visitors, contractors and sub-contractors when they are on University premises.

No Smoking Policy

Should BMA or other authoritative guidance alter significantly, the University’s No Smoking Policy will be updated as appropriate.

The policy is designed to secure a healthy and safe environment for staff and students and to eliminate passive smoking from its premises, in keeping with the 'Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005'.

Use and regulation

Electronic cigarettes are battery-powered products designed to replicate smoking behaviour without the use of tobacco.

Further information on their use and regulation can be found on the BMA website.
