Senate spotlight on research

The theme for the presentation and discussion section of the University’s next Senate meeting is 'Postgraduate research'.

The meeting will be held on 1 October.

Staff are invited to attend the presentation and discussion section of the meeting, but must first book a place through MyEd.

International guest speaker

The meeting's discussion will focus on the University's intention to increase postgraduate research student numbers, and the changing nature of doctoral education.

Topics will include:

  • student and supervisor support
  • the Edinburgh doctorate explained
  • joint PhD programmes
  • online distance learning PhD programmes.

Among the guest speakers is Dr Isolde von Bülow from Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität.

She will explain the restructure of doctoral education at her institution, and how it aligns with the wider agenda of the European Commission.
