Industrial action: information

University and College Union (UCU) has notified the University that its members will take industrial action in support of its national pay claim for 2013/14.

The action will take the form of a further two-hour strike and a full day strike on the following dates:

  • Thursday 6 February, full day
  • Monday 10 February, 9am-11am

Pay and pension issues

The University has taken a view as to the likely impact of employees’ participation in this industrial action on the institution, and the appropriate amount of pay to be withheld in the circumstances.

For action on Thursday 23 January 2014, the University will withhold two hours’ pay, which will be deducted from the February 2014 salary payment for those staff who participate in the strike.

However, the University is not legally obliged to pay anything for the days on which strike action takes place, therefore the sum staff receive is ex-gratia, entirely voluntary and paid without prejudice to the University’s right to withhold full pay in the future for partial performance.

The amount withheld may be reviewed, in which case staff will be advised in advance of any future action.

Pension contributions will not be affected.

Staff with any questions about this communication should contact their line manager or local HR team.
