High praise for low paper use

The University has been commended for being a UK leader in cutting its paper use.

Edinburgh was the second highest performing university in the European Environmental Paper Network’s (EEPN) ‘Paper Efficiency Scorecard’.

It was also placed in the top six organisations in the ‘Preparing to take off’ category.

Tackling paper efficiency

The Paper Efficiency Scorecard is part of the EEPN’s Shrink Paper project, which aims to encourage UK organisations to tackle paper efficiency.

The scorecard summarises the results of a sample of more than 60 large UK companies and public sector organisations.

Banks, utility companies, supermarkets, government bodies and universities were assessed.

Scores were calculated by assessing organisations’ transparency, paper policies, actions taken to increase efficiency and measured progress in reducing paper volumes.

By reducing paper usage staff are reducing paper waste and contributing to the University’s Climate Action Plan. Pragmatic changes to behaviours will reduce the volume of paper required, reduce paper to waste streams, reduce costs (known and hidden) and reduce our carbon footprint.
