Apply for project funding

University staff or students have until 31 March to apply for an Innovation Initiative Grant.

These grants can be awarded to support a one-off project, a piece of research, or to provide seed funding for a long-term venture, which is expected to become self-funding.

Promoting innovation

The Innovation Initiative Grants, are funded through alumni donations made to the University of Edinburgh Development Trust.

They are awarded to projects which best reflect creativity and innovation.

Recent projects to receive these awards include:

• a new e-listening service at Edinburgh Nightline
• maternal obesity research
• a student-led economics conference
• an expedition to conduct photo-identification of the critically endangered Vaquita porpoise.

Application details

All University staff and matriculated students are eligible to apply.

Applicants can apply for up to £5,000 per project but due to high demand, it is unlikely that projects will receive 100 per cent of the requested amount.
