New Trans Equality Policy

The University has launched a new Trans Equality Policy.

As part of the University’s wider Equality and Diversity strategy, the policy has been published to provide support and understanding to those individuals who wish to take, or have taken, steps to present themselves in a gender different to their birth gender.

Reflecting diversity

The new policy has been developed and welcomed jointly by staff and students.

It serves to represent and reflect the University’s increasingly diverse culture and community, and to promote equality of opportunity for all.

Support and guidance

The policy seeks to inform both staff and students about what can be a sensitive and complex area.

It also aims to provide practical support and processes designed to support actively any individuals concerned, while also providing guidance for managers and/or relevant advisors.

Many of the principles contained within the policy are in line with good practice guidance produced by the Equality Challenge Unit.

The policy can be found on both the HR website and the Equality and Diversity website.
