Security reminder

Staff are being encouraged to display their University ID cards at all times.

The reminder is being issued to enhance security and personal safety awareness among staff and students.

Public display

We are all members of the university community and it is in all our interests to look after each other.

Adam Conn, Chief Security Officer, says: “The University hosts a diverse community and its population is in regular transit across the estate.

"However there are occasions where it is assumed that those going around are students or staff when, in fact, it may be an opportunist thief looking to steal University or personal property.

“If everyone displays their card publicly it will serve to identify those who do not and if doubts persist our security section can be informed.”

Laptop warning

Staff and students are also asked to be extra vigilant when using laptops on campus, as their portability can make them an easy target for theft.

Staff who use a departmental laptop are asked to store it securely, and are advised to keep a note of its make, model or serial number.

This information can assist police should a theft occur.

Security locks can be bought for most laptops.

Christmas party cash

In the run up to Christmas, staff are also asked to bank any cash collected for Christmas parties.

It is recommended that this money is not stored in offices.
