The Students’ Association was the overall winner of the National Union of Students Sound Impact Awards, an accreditation scheme that encourages student-led action on matters related to ethics and the environment.

Scoring high for ethics

Of the 83 participating student unions, EUSA scored highest for its commitment to social responsibility, and was one of just five unions to be awarded a gold award.

EUSA has led a number of projects and campaigns aimed at making the campus a greener and fairer place for students and staff.

High-profile campaigns

Among these has been a high-profile campaign to convince the University to alter the licensing terms of medicines developed on campus to ensure that they are accessible to those in developing countries.

The Students’ Association has also been impactful in the local community, lobbying Edinburgh City Council to create a cycle lane between two of the University’s campuses.

EUSA has been working hard over the last year to improve its environmental record and to reduce its impact on the environment. There are 35,000 students and staff at Edinburgh and by working together we can make a really positive impact on the environment.
