Academic governance reforms

The University is to overhaul academic governance from September 2009.

New committees will be set up to replace Academic Policy, Senatus Undergraduate, Postgraduate Studies and Senatus Quality Assurance and Enhancement.

These will take over formal responsibility from September 2009.

New committees

The new committees will be:

  • Learning and Teaching
  • Researcher Experience
  • Curriculum and Student Progression
  • Quality Assurance

The committees will set advanced and planned agendas better targeted to University, College and School priorities.

Committee conveners will identify the issues of most importance to staff and students.

Task groups, involving a wider range of staff and students, will carry out actions on those issues.

Members needed

New members are needed for both the task groups and the committees.

Some members will automatically be recruited to certain committees due to their specific roles. Conveners can also co-opt members.

Individuals will be considered if they have:

  • experience in the relevant area
  • substantial interest in enhancing the student experience
  • competence (or a desire to build experience) in educational change

Students who are interested in getting involved with the development of the University are also encouraged to apply.
