Securing long-term stability
Like many universities, we are navigating significant and urgent financial challenges. Geopolitical uncertainty, rising costs and unsustainable funding for Scottish and other UK students have created significant strain across the higher education sector.
At the University of Edinburgh, we are taking responsible, carefully planned action to secure our long-term stability.
Our current position
The University is not in deficit, but our costs are rising faster than our income. Without the actions already underway, our financial position would be far more fragile.
Staff and students are being engaged throughout this period, and the University remains committed to avoiding compulsory redundancies wherever possible.
Every decision we take is focused on protecting high-quality education, our students’ experience and world-leading research, while safeguarding the University for generations to come.
News and statements
Student journalists Luca Parrish and Amelie Jeeves speak with Professor Sir Peter Mathieson about the future of universities, funding pressures and why higher education must stay a political priority.
