Severe weather warning: University closure on Friday 24 January

A weather warning has been issued for Scotland ahead of Storm Éowyn. This includes a rare red alert for Scotland's central belt, including Edinburgh, from 10am - 5pm on Friday 24 January.

The Met Office has said high winds could reach 100mph (160km/h) and there is a risk to life due to flying debris, power cuts and damage to buildings. People are advised to stay indoors and to avoid travelling if possible.

The University will close and no teaching in-person or online will take place on Friday 24 January. Any events planned to take place on campus that day will be cancelled. Staff and students have been notified.

University nurseries will also close, and parents will be notified.

The Main Library will be closed from midnight on 23 January and is expected to reopen on 25 January, depending on the weather conditions. The Library webpage will be updated as reopening times are confirmed:

We will seek to ensure that missed teaching is recovered through the remainder of the Semester.
