Edinburgh celebrates diversity with Pride
Students and staff are celebrating the LGBT+ community with a range of activities and events taking place throughout June.
Creative workshops, poetry recitals and a ceilidh are some of the highlights from events being held across the University.
The month-long programme will mark the national celebration of LGBT+ communities, their history and culture.
On campus
On 4 June, an art market – hosted by the University’s Students’ Association – will showcase the creative talent of Edinburgh’s LGBT+ community.
A poetry workshop centred on queer identity and experience in the workplace will be held on 5 June by the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine.
Later in the month, students can enjoy a night of traditional Scottish dancing at the Students’ Association’s ceilidh in Potterrow to help raise funds for Pride Edinburgh.
The 50th anniversary of the Lothian Gay and Lesbian Switchboard will be celebrated with a creative card and zine-making session. The University’s Heritage Collections team will lead the workshop in making the small, self-published pamphlets.
Participants will have the opportunity to use archival material to make the small, handmade pamphlets with support from the University’s Heritage Collections team.
The Staff Pride Network is also holding a series of social events and meet-ups across the University’s campus.
Pride march
Scotland’s longest-running celebration of diversity, Pride Edinburgh 2024 will take place on Saturday 22 June with free events happening across the capital.
The Pride march will assemble from 12:15pm at the Scottish Parliament and will finish in the Festival Village at Bristo Square.
From 2pm, the Festival Village will play host to Pride Edinburgh’s main stage with a range of headline artists, DJ sets and performances.
