Bold ideas in spotlight as academics take stand
Controversial questions are being asked by leading researchers as the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
This year’s line-up features experts in a range of topics presenting provocative and tongue-in-cheek ideas, such as “Are Women A**holes?” and “Are Plants Total B*st*rds?”
Hosted by comedian Susan Morrison, each event aims to ignite lively discussions with audiences.
Fascinating insights
The packed programme includes Dr Amy Andrada questioning societal pressures that drive women to harshly judge each other based on beauty, motherhood and relationship success.
Dr Richard Milne will reveal the vicious, competitive behaviours of plants that are far from passive. They engage in deceit, theft, and even murder.
The surprising allure of numbers will be explored by Dr Isabella Deutsch as she takes the audience on a journey through the essential role of statistics in everything from pandemic response to mortgage applications—and even finding love.
Elsewhere, Dr Rana Fetit will dive into the ethical quandaries surrounding stem cells and brain organoids. Are these mini brains in a dish capable of thought and feeling?
