Offer pack: BSc Biomedical and Medical Science

Congratulations on receiving an offer to study at the University of Edinburgh!

Students talking

You join a select group of students identified as having the intellect, commitment and the potential to thrive in Edinburgh’s academic community. You are about to make one of the most important and exciting transitions of your life, as you move from school or college to university. We are delighted that you've chosen to come and study with us at the University of Edinburgh.

As a student at Edinburgh, you will become a member of one of the world's top 50 universities in the world (we’re 15th in the most recent QS World University Rankings); entry to our programmes is highly competitive and you should feel proud that your hard work has led to an offer to study here.

Please note, Biomedical Sciences refers to the following programmes:

  • Anatomy & Development
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Neuroscience
  • Pharmacology
  • Physiology
  • Reproductive Biology

The information on this page is also relevant if you are holding an offer for our Medical Sciences programme .

Now that we've become your Firm choice we may need verification of some of the qualifications you already have as well as verification of the final results you are still waiting on.  We will ask for everything we need from you through MyEd and your EUCLID portal so please keep an eye on this so you know what you need to upload there and when (or email to us if you have problems uploading documents).

We ask for 'verified copies' of all of the original documents we need from you.

A verified copy of an original document is one that has been signed by a working professional that knows you and has confirmed your original documentation matches the copy you have taken. A few examples of a professional may be your doctor/nurse, family lawyer or a teacher/lecturer/member of support staff at your place of study that is confirming to us that the copy we are receiving is a true copy of the original.

We would therefore advise that you should complete the following steps:

  • Take photocopies of your original documents
  • Take these photocopies and your original documents to the eligible person who is going to verify them
  • Using the photocopies ask them to compare them against each of the originals and once they are happy ask them to:
    • Sign and print their name
    • Detail their place of work/job title
    • Date with the current date of when they are verifying your document
    • Include the text (in their verification) that “This is a true verified copy of  XXXXXXXX” (say what the original document is eg passport).

Academic conditions

We receive automatic notification of the following exam results directly from UCAS:

  • SQA Highers and Advanced Highers
  • GCE A Levels
  • Irish Leaving Certificate
  • Welsh Baccalaureate

If your qualification is listed above or on the UCAS exam results webpage, you do not need to directly notify us of your exam results.

If you are an IB candidate you should ask your school IB Diploma Programme Coordinator to request that the IBO sends your results to UCAS, so that we can receive these automatically. Information for UCAS centres on this process is available in the IBO Handbook of procedures for the Diploma programme.

IBO instructions on the issue of results to UCAS

If you hold a conditional offer based on results in any other examination you must upload verified copies of your certificates within EUCLID or you can also email these to us. You should do this as soon as the results become available.

English Language Conditions

If you require a visa to enter the UK, you may have a specific English Language requirement on your offer. We may accept an alternative to this but this is restricted to requirements of UK Visas and Immigration.  Please contact the Undergraduate Admissions Team if you have any questions regarding this.
