How to influence clinical practice?
CMVM research has the potential to change clinical practice. Your research outputs can change clinical practice through influencing:

- Recommendations in diagnostic manuals
- Clinical curricula
- Practitioner and patient knowledge
- Public perceptions.
Building your network and engaging with policymakers, charities, practitioners, patients and the public can help you achieve these outcomes through sharing knowledge and experience.
Guides on influencing clinical practice with research
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) have released an impact vision to improve how NIHR research contributes to making a meaningful difference to people's lives. They provide a guide on where health commissioners get their evidence, which lists routes to transforming your scientific knowledge into practical knowledge that can catalyse change. NIHR also jointly run an Impact Coffee Club with the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), which brings charities and organisatons together to share learning on impact-related topics.

Making Evidence Matter: Steps to Impact for Health and Care Researchers is an open access book (published in 2021) that outlines practical ways health care researchers can reach out to different audiences (from patients, practitioners to policymakers) to maximise their clinical impact and includes insightful interviews from policymakers, practitioners and the public.
Making Evidence Matter: Steps to Impact for Health and Care Researchers
The Leeds Cancer Research Centre and Policy Leeds, both at the University of Leeds, hosted a panel discussion on "Translating cancer research and innovation into policy and care" in September 2023. A panel explored how challenges around timely translation of new treatments and technologies for cancer can be translated into policy and care. The session looked at how high-level evidence informs international guideline, regulatory and policy decisions that ultimately determine patient treatment and care.
