- Because good subject gateways usually exclude poor resources, they can save time sifting through poor resources turned up by internet search engines.
- Because of the effort required for assessing and/or categorising subject gateways, you won't get as many results as you would with a search engine. If you don't find what you were expecting, you may want to try a search engine.
- You may need to search the subject gateway using more general terms: remember that usually you aren't searching the full text of the resources, but only descriptive information like keywords.
