Joy Edwards-Hicks’ group investigates how age-related metabolic changes impact lymphocyte signalling and function.

The goal of their research is to promote healthy human ageing through reduced age-associated inflammation and improved aged lymphocyte function.

Biographical Profile

Dr Joy Edwards-Hicks studied Biomedicine at the University of East Anglia and obtained her BSc Hons degree in 2013. She moved to Edinburgh in the same year and studied for her PhD with Dr Andrew Finch at the Institute for Genetics and Cancer (IGC) where she developed a passion for metabolic research. From 2017, Dr Joy Edwards-Hicks carried out her postdoctoral studies with Professor Erika Pearce at the Max Planck Institute of Immunology and Epigenetics in Germany where she studied how metabolism regulates T cell signalling and function. In 2021, she moved to the University of Cambridge to work with Professor Christoph Hess on translational immunometabolism and was awarded a BBSRC Discovery Fellowship in 2023 to investigate how lipid metabolism regulates T cell ageing. In 2024, she was awarded an ESAT fellowship to start her group at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR).
