Does nursing work deplete nurses’ well-being?

Opening remarks: Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, Emeritus Professor of Nursing and Fellow of the Royal College of Nursing.

Speaking for the motion: University of Edinburgh's Professor Pam Smith (author of The Emotional Labour of Nursing: How nurses care (1992: Palgrave Macmillan) and The Emotional Labour of Nursing Revisited: Can nurses still care? (2012: Palgrave Macmillan).

Speaking against the motion: Jos deBlok - a globally recognized keynote speaker, changemaker, visionary and founder and CEO of Buurtzorg (neighborhood nursing).

The debate was jointly organised by the Journal of Research in Nursing and the Foundation of Nursing Studies and took place on Wednesday 11th November. Our Edinburgh Team, Pam Smith, Gearoid Brennan, Daniela Castillo and Radha Adhikari proposed the motion. The motion was opposed by Jos de Blok and the Buurtzorg (neighbourhood care) team, Netherlands. The motion was carried 55% (for) 45% (against).
