Pre-requisites
Visiting students must have completed at least 2 Social Science courses (i.e. Sociology, Politics, Social Policy, Social Anthropology, African Studies, American Studies, Gender/Queer Studies) at grade B or above. Course Summary
The course is intended to provide a broad introduction to key concepts in social theory, such as the social, critique and culture. These concepts will be presented and discussed starting from the examination of a number of key classical and contemporary texts. The course has 30 contact hours: in addition to the 2-hour lecture, there is a one hour tutorial devoted to detailed work with texts and the learning of conceptual skills needed to evaluate and/ or practise social theory.
