Find out about our future work in Europe.

Horizon Europe

Re-association to Horizon Europe reiterates the significance of the growing bilateral partnerships that the UoE has been developing and re-energises interest amongst European partner institutions in collaborative grant applications with academics and researchers at UoE.

In the aftermath of the EU referendum, the University positioned itself as an enthusiastic partner and collaborator by investing in selected European partners and joining the Una Europa Alliance. Since 2017, the UoE has funded joint PhD students co-supervised by Leiden University, KU Leuven, the University of Helsinki and the University of Copenhagen. Through Una Europa, we are working with eleven of Europe’s top research-intensive universities to create innovative learning and mobility opportunities for our shared student community and support increased research collaboration, enhanced doctoral training and networking for early career researchers.

Scottish Education Exchange Programme (SEEP)

The Scottish Government has committed to developing a Test and Learn Project to re-establish some of the opportunities Erasmus+ provided.

From 3 October 2023, Scottish universities and colleges can bid initially for one short term grant for a minimum of £1,000 and maximum of £25,000 to undertake international projects which need to be completed by 31 March 2024.

Applications will be considered for activities to fund inward student and staff mobility, and outward staff mobility, with a focus on inclusion and diversity. Outward student mobility will not be eligible for funding through this project.

The project’s objectives are to encourage international partnerships and alliances which support the Scottish Government Priority Missions of:

  • Equality: Tackling poverty and protecting people from harm.

  • Opportunity: Building a fair, green, and growing economy.

  • Community: Delivering efficient and effective public services.
