Formal Governance role

The Business Committee ensures that the General Council is sufficiently informed on contemporary issues to fulfil its role in the governance of the University.  It has the right, on behalf of the General Council, to make representations to the University on questions affecting the well-being and prosperity of the University.

The Business Committee meets regularly to take forward the work of the General Council between its half yearly meetings.  It considers:

  • Issues affecting the well-being and prosperity of the University;
  • Any proposed improvements of substance in the internal arrangements of the University;
  • Consultations referred to it by the University Court on all draft Ordinances, Resolutions and related matters;
  • Any matters remitted to it by the General Council.

The Business Committee reports on its work to each statutory half-yearly meeting of the General Council.
