Does ability grouping affect UK primary school pupils’ enjoyment of Maths and English?

In this seminar, Dr Queralt Capsada-Munsech discusses the practice of grouping pupils by measured ability for instructional purposes, and uses bivariate descriptive statistics, multinominal regression models and individual fixed effects regression models to predict how being grouped in this way affects student enjoyment of Maths, English, and school in general. The research is based on the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) data and was carried out in collaboration with Professor Vikki Boliver (Durham University).
