This 5 year award of £1.6m will fund his laboratory's research into the molecular mechanisms by which chronic inflammation can damage the brain, especially its fragile network of small blood vessels. This will help us understand how neurological disease might be prevented in immune diseases such as lupus, and potentially provide insights into how dementias develop.
David and his team will be based at the Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, in the laboratories of the UK Dementia Research Institute and MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine. David is also an honorary consultant neurologist at the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic where he leads a neuroinflammatory disorders clinic.
