BSc Infectious Diseases

Infectious disease is a major challenge to society in the developed and developing worlds.

The Infectious Diseases programme investigates the microorganisms that can cause disease in humans and animals and how a host responds to infection. It brings together the study of bacteriology, virology, immunology and molecular biology.

You will study the interaction between microorganisms and their hosts, the processes of infection and how microbes cause disease. This knowledge can then be applied to the development of prevention and therapeutic strategies such as antibiotics, antiviral agents and vaccines.
