S1-3 Professions Information Sessions
Sessions designed to inform and inspire S1-3 pupils, who may be considering courses and careers in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, art, design or architecture.
The Reach and ACES projects currently work with S4-S6 pupils in the senior phase of school. By that stage, some pupils have not considered the possibility of studying particular subjects or pursuing certain careers - perhaps they are simply not aware of them. Often, by this stage, pupils have received conflicting or incorrect information or guidance about application processes or requirements needed for these courses. These sessions aim to address these issues and engage with pupils and their families / carers / advisers earlier in the school journey to help raise aspirations and maintain pupils’ motivation to study these courses.
A series of information sessions based around the Reach and ACES subject areas, with input from the relevant academic school staff, current students and University alumni who are working in those relevant careers. The involvement of current students provides pupils and parents with a realistic, first-hand insight into studying these subjects at the University of Edinburgh, while the alumni offer inspirational stories and information about subsequent careers. The sessions provide accurate and up-to-date information about the current admissions requirements for these subjects (although more generalised to reflect the pupils’ stage). This is also a chance to introduce the Reach and ACES projects to pupils who may be eligible when they reach the senior phase.
Any S1-S3 pupil in a local state school who may be considering courses and careers in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, art, design or architecture, along with their parents and carers.
