Control of Substances Hazardous to Health

The course is aimed at those who work with hazardous substances and who have the responsibility for carrying out risk assessments in accordance with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.

There is a requirement in law that where employees are involved in tasks involving the use of hazardous substances that risk is formally assessed with a view to avoiding or reducing the risk.

Course Outline

The "Practical CoSHH assessment" training course gives an overview of the Regulations covering topics such as:

  • their history and requirements
  • definition of hazardous substances
  • how and where to gain information on hazardous substances
  • risk assessment
  • control measures

The course comprises of training videos which you must watch prior to undertaking a short quiz to demonstrate your understanding of the course content. Further reading and guidance is also available within the course.

The course is available but Learn Ultra does not allow students to self-enrol on courses.  We are currently working on a solution for this, but if you require access to this training in the meantime, please email safety.training@ed.ac.uk with your name and the course you wish to be enrolled on, and you will be manually enrolled.
