Comparative Education and International Development (CEID) Research Group
The CEID Research Group brings together a diverse group of researchers, scholars and practitioners working on or interested in comparative education and/or education and international development.
We aim to benefit the local and global community by serving as a hub for critical reflection and evaluation of education. We investigate education's direct and indirect potential by exploring its complex, interdependent relationship with society, culture and politics. Our projects often have an applied aspect and include collaborations with individuals and institutions both within and beyond academia.
The Research Group is one part of a vibrant and active CEID community. The community is made up of three parts:
- CEID Research Group
- MSc CEID Programme
- CEID Student Society
The three parts of our community ensure that all who are interested may find a home and contribute to activities and events.
For regular updates from across the CEID Community, including the CEID Research please see our blog.
The CEID Research Group was officially launched in October 2020. It is an evolving group consisting of faculty and PhD students across the University of Edinburgh and based at the Moray House School of Education and Sport. It is currently directed by a steering committee.

The CEID Student Society is one of the few student societies driven by post-graduate students. Open to all students and staff, the Society hosts a range of social, academic, and networking events. The Society has three main goals:
Expand the network: Raise awareness of issues around CEID among the students by promoting EDTalks delivered by professionals in our field. By organizing different outdoor and remote social activities, create a sense of community among students who are interested in CEID.
Support members: Help members grow their professional/academic careers by building a greater bridge between masters, PhD students and University of Edinburgh staff, supporting research projects and sharing career opportunities across the community.
Cooperate with NGOs and societies: Set up relationships between NGOs and other societies involved in education and development by organizing different opportunities for people to hear about and be involved with their work.
If you’d like more information or wish to join the Society please visit our website on the Edinburgh University Student Association website.
