Climate conscious travel
Find out how to reduce emissions through virtual collaboration, choosing low-carbon local transport, and following our Sustainable Travel Policy for national and international travel.
What can I do?
The easiest way to reduce carbon emissions from travel is to follow the Travel Hierarchy.

Virtual collaboration
Emissions can be reduced by using virtual collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
Local travel
Active transport (walking or cycling) is the mode of transport with the lowest emissions, followed by public transport (buses or trams).
There are various incentives and support for these forms of more sustainable travel.
National or international travel
Follow the Sustainable Travel Policy.
Our 'climate conscious' travel approach is to:
- reduce overall travel; replace high carbon modes of transport with low carbon modes ones; sequester remaining emissions
- whilst continuing to excel in our world-leading learning, teaching and research
