Dr Tufail-Hanif is the Deputy Programme Director for the ChM in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, an online postgraduate programme delivered in partnership between the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Appointments and Activities
Dr Uzma Tufail-Hanif joined the Department of Clinical Surgery in July 2013 to lead development and delivery of the ChM in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery. The programme launched in the same year that Vascular Surgery became a surgical specialty in the UK and aligned with the ICSP curriculum for Vascular Surgery training. She was also Academic Lead for the ChM in Urology until 2020.
Dr Tufail-Hanif completed both her undergraduate and postdoctoral degrees at the University of Edinburgh. Her Cancer Research UK funded PhD was undertaken in the Centre for Inflammation Research where she investigated a novel group of compounds with anti-cancer activity against small cell lung cancer.
Prior to joining the Department of Clinical Surgery, Dr Tufail-Hanif was involved in teaching undergraduate MBChB students in Edinburgh Medical School as an Associate Teacher.

University Senatus and standing committee membership
Elected as member of the University Senatus, which is the University's most senior academic body with responsibility for overseeing and regulating teaching, promoting research and student discipline.
OCTOBER 2022–PRESENT
Elected member of the Academic Policy and Regulations Committee with responsibility, on behalf of the Senatus, for the University's framework of academic policy and regulation. The committee also oversees the development, maintenance and implementation of an academic regulatory framework which effectively supports and underpins the University's educational activities.
