First set up in 2003, the Chancellor’s Awards are an opportunity to celebrate members of our University community. They acknowledge staff who have provided an outstanding contribution to the University or society, or who have excelled in teaching or research. The awards also honour colleagues who are showing great potential at an early stage of their career.
There are four categories:
- Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contribution
- Chancellor’s Award for Research
- Chancellor’s Award for Teaching
- Rising Star Award
How to nominate
Firstly, visit the Chancellor’s Awards webpages for more information on the awards, including the awards criteria and guidance on what to include in your nomination. You can also download a nomination form. All nomination forms must be filled in and submitted to your Head of School or Department before 5pm on Friday 23 May.

How winners are selected
Heads of School or Department will decide which nominations to recommend to their respective Head of College or Professional Services Group. Heads of College/Professional Services Group will then group nominations according to the award category and rank them in order of preference before submitting their top two nominees in each category to the Principal. The Principal will recommend a winner in each category to the Chancellor.
Winners will be publicly announced at the Chancellor’s Dinner, which will be held later in the Autumn. If you have any queries about the awards, please get in touch with Nicola Helliwell, Executive Officer, Principal’s Office, via Nicola.Helliwell@ed.ac.uk.
