Mark Robertson

2017 inductee

Mark won a silver medal in Rugby 7s at the 2016 Rio Olympics as a member of Team GB. Playing in every fixture, Mark helped the team to top their group (including a win over New Zealand) before beating Argentina and South Africa on the way to the final against Fiji.

Following a successful 15s career, Mark went on to win 57 caps for Scotland 7s and play a central role in his country’s resurgence at world level. In 2016 he was part of the Scotland team which won the London 7s, the country’s first triumph in the World Series. In the final, Scotland beat South Africa 27-26, scoring two tries in the final minute to secure a famous victory. In the quarterfinals, Mark ran in a 30-metre try in a 17-0 win over England.

He also represented Scotland at the 2013 World Cup in Moscow, scoring two tries at the event.

During his distinguished 7s career, Mark scored 536 points for Scotland through 106 tries and three conversions, his landmark 100th try, underlining his world-class pedigree, coming at the 2017 Singapore World Series event in the match against France. He thus became one of the very few forwards to score a century of tries for Scotland. Mark is respected globally as the complete 7s player, commanding exceptional handling skills, speed and power, together with astute tactical awareness, game sense and competitiveness. His performances for Scotland and Great Britain have helped redefine Rugby 7s while also inspiring a new generation of international players.

Mark is a 2012 graduate of our MSc Strength and Conditioning programme too.
