Sharon MacKechnie

MA Physical Education Depute Programme Director

Background

I graduated from Moray House in 1996 and taught secondary PE for eight years before leaving teaching to lead a lottery-funded project in Argyll & Bute for two years.  During that time I got involved with many organisations, including the Youth Sport Trust and Badminton Scotland.  I went back into teaching and taught primary PE full-time for six years, and part-time for a further four years, during which time I was an associate tutor and then a university teacher in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow.  I also became heavily involved with the organisation of major badminton events and had the opportunity to work at the London 2012 Olympics, the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Baku 2015 European Games.  I was then offered the role of Event Operations Manager for the 2017 Badminton World Championships and latterly I was the Championships Director for the Scottish National Championships.

I've written and been involved in writing several national resources, including the Badminton Scotland Curriculum for Excellence First and Second Level resource; the Big Hit BGE secondary PE resource (Badminton Scotland); the Connections early years resource (South Lanarkshire Council) and an early years resource for the Badminton World Federation (Shuttle Time Kinder). I have also written a BGE S1-S3 resource for pickleball, along with a club organiser resource.
