Background

Sarah’s initial training in psychology was at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada and following this worked for a government-funded organisation which aimed to encourage those with learning disabilities to lead as independent lives as possible through education, training and practical life skills. Later, she trained as an occupational therapist at Queen Margaret University and graduated in 2000.  In 2005 she completed her PhD which focussed on the barriers to effective pain assessment.  Sarah's clinical time has been spent working as a psychologist in Canada using cognitive behavioural therapy and as an occupational therapist in renal and general medicine.  As an educationalist, Sarah specialised in pain assessment and measurement, psychological and non-pharmacological pain interventions, and qualitative methodologies.

Sarah began her post at the University of Edinburgh, where she helped lead the implementation of the University’s first fully online distance learning Masters programme in pain management - a programme that continues today.

In addition, Sarah leads the College in the development of postgraduate taught education, providing senior level leadership to the College's PGT programmes.
