Ruth Barnes (PhD student)

Thesis title: Exploring children’s agency, parental consent and children's views and experiences of wellbeing in elite sport

Background

I am a child rights consultant with over 15 years of experience in the child rights sector, primarily at Coram International. In my research and consultancy work, I have specialised in providing technical assistance to UN agencies, governments and non-governmental organisations on child rights law and policy. My areas of focus have included safeguarding, child protection and justice for children.

In childhood, I was an elite junior tennis player and I attended Northwestern University, Illinois as a student-athlete, competing in NCAA championships with a conference winning team. My PhD research brings together my interest in children's rights, voices and wellbeing with a continued interest in children's experiences in sport.
