Background

Michael Pedersen is a Scottish poet and author, and the current Writer in Residence at The University of Edinburgh. His acclaimed prose debut, 'Boy Friends', was published by Faber & Faber in 2022 — it was a Sunday Times Critics Choice and shortlisted for Best Non-Fiction at The Saltire National Book Awards. He’s unfurled three collections of poetry, the most recent being 'The Cat Prince & Other Poems' (Little Brown, 2023)—which won the Books Are My Bag Readers Award for Best Poetry 2023. Pedersen has been shortlisted for the Forward Prizes for Poetry, and won a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship and the John Mather’s Trust Rising Star of Literature Award. His words have been published in such places as The Guardian, The Poetry Review, New Statesman, The Rialto and The Scotsman; and his work has attracted praise from voices as diverse as: Stephen Fry, Kae Tempest, Irvine Welsh, Maggie Smith, Sara Pascoe, Shirley Manson, Nicola Sturgeon and Jackie Kay.

From 2011 until 2022 he co-ran and curated the Neu! Reekie! literary production house, producing hundreds of prize-winning literary events within Scotland and the world over. He also co-edited their Neu! Reekie! poetry anthology series (published by Polygon/Birlinn) and has tutored at the likes of Moniack Mhor and Arvon.
