Background

Laura is a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Oncology, Head of Small Animal Oncology and holds a Chair in Small Animal Oncology at the University of Edinburgh. Laura is interested in all aspects of clinical veterinary oncology, and is qualified in both medical and radiation oncology. 

Laura graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1990, and worked there as a house surgeon and oncology clinician after qualifying. She then completed her residency at the University of Cambridge and a PhD at the University of Glasgow, investigating the molecular genetics of feline hyperthyroidism.  After a further two years in Glasgow working as an oncologist, she moved to the University of Liverpool, where she was Head of Service and Head of Department for a number of Years.  Laura joined the University of Edinburgh in 2022.
