Dr Theoni Massara

Research Project Manager

I am a professional Project Manager of research projects with a background in civil engineering (MEng, MSc, PhD). After my MSc studies in ‘Water, Soil and Waste Management and Treatment’ in the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris, I was granted a full 4-year NERC PhD studentship. My PhD thesis, co-ordinated by Brunel University London and UCL, focused on the development on novel mathematical models for the quantification of greenhouse gas emission and production during full-scale wastewater treatment. My post-doctoral research focused on novel surface water monitoring. In parallel with my PhD and post-doctoral research, I started my career as the Project Manager of various EC, UK and industrially funded projects which involved international and multidisciplinary consortia. I currently hold the post of Research Project Manager at the Flexible Resource Centre (FRC) in the Edinburgh Research Office. My expertise includes (but is not limited to) risk management and exception reports, project assurance, financial management (reporting, audits, etc.), people management, time management and task prioritising, managing national/international partners in various sectors (e.g., industry, academia, government, NGOs), engaging with key internal/external stakeholders, report writing and presentation, team leadership and collaboration.
