Dr Smaragda Tsairidou

Teaching Fellow

Background

I am a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, with international expertise in livestock health management and animal breeding. I received my MSc in Quantitative Genetics and Genome Analysis, and my PhD in genetics and genomics of resistance to bovine Tuberculosis, at the University of Edinburgh.

In my previous positions as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Roslin institute and R(D)SVS, my research focused on genetic-epidemiological modelling for disease control, and more recently, on aquaculture genetics. My research combines bioinformatics, quantitative genetics and genomics to develop data-driven selective breeding strategies.

I am enthusiastic about teaching and I have been actively involved in the planning and delivery of a range of courses in the UK and abroad. I have received the Edinburgh Teaching Award, and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, UK.
