Alex McKay

Digital Services: IT Manager

Background

I have over 30 years experience of IT support within a Higher Education background.  Most of this was spent in the Central IT department at The University of Salford in Greater Manchester, before I re-located to the Scottish Borders late in 2018.  I started my career managing Salford's campus wide Novell Netware infrastructure, and progressed through various data storage platforms, Windows server, centralised print services, data backup, finishing my time at Salford managing the physical assets in the two data centres as well as managing the helpdesk call queue for the platforms team (server hardware & software, databases, data backup, authentication services etc.) and line managing the Data Centre Administrators.

At Edinburgh I am the IT Manager for the Holyrood Campus Digital Services Team. We offer 2nd line IT support & advice to the Moray House School of Education, Centre for Open Learning and School of Divinity, as well as supporting digital innovations in teaching and learning.
