Aaron McHale

Software Analyst/Developer

Background

As of March 2020, Aaron joined the Prospective Student Web Team in Communications and Marketing as an Analyst Developer, specialising in PHP and Drupal development, and is also part of the IS Applications Development Services.

Previous to his current role, Aaron first joined the University in March 2017 working in the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability. In this role, Aaron was responsible for developing web applications and services for the Department.  Aaron also fulfilled the role of Local Computing Officer for the Department, coordinating IT systems and providing first & second line support to colleagues, as well as taking responsibility for purchasing of IT equipment.  In addition, Aaron acted as a Data Protection Champion within the Department.

Previous to joining the University, Aaron worked in the retail side of Specsavers in various roles including Marketing and Management.

Responsibilities & affiliations

  • Member of the Committee for the Scottish Drupal Association
  • Contributor to the Drupal project and member of the Drupal Usability Group

Project activity

  • Ongoing development of the Department's CRM
  • Porting EdGEL Drupal 7 theme to Drupal 8 along with various Drupal modules which faciliate EASE authentication in Drupal
  • Developing MySRS, a new online platform built using Drupal 8 which aims to act as a central online portal for staff and students to engage with the Department
  • Technical development of the Be Sustainable Online Training, built in MySRS
  • Ongoing maintenance of our Business Travel Reporting Site
